A lot On My Mind

I twirl my hair in bed at night when I have a lot on my mind

You look over at me concerned as you can see the signs

I say “I’m fine” at first even though it’s always a lie

I’m thinking about how to put my feelings into words, or at least I try

You never try to push me, but you let me know you’re there

I eventually open up because I know how much you care

The tears immediately start flowing and I can’t help how sensitive I am

Stumbling over my words and trying to explain things the best that I can

You are way more logical than I am as I tend to overthink

You bring me back to the surface when my mind begins to sink

And when I’m really drowning, you’re always there to save the day

Because, once again, you know exactly what to say

While my struggles are something that I never want you to bear

You’re the reason that I eventually let go of my hair
